Private treatment that's friendly & professional

My name is Mark Jay. I'm a Clinical Nurse Specialist in addiction, with many years experience of helping problem and dependent drinkers in the NHS. I'm also qualified as an Independent Prescriber.

Devon Home Detox is my private practice, where I can give anyone looking for help with their alcohol problem a more flexible and personalised service than your local free services or residential rehab units can offer.

There's no rigid 'alcoholism program' or long term commitment - just as much help as you decide that you need.

Everything happens in your home - there's no clinic to attend, no groups to sit in. If you'd prefer, however, I can see you in consulting rooms in South Molton. I am happy to travel to see clients not just in Devon, but in Cornwall, Somerset, Dorset, Bristol and anywhere in the South-West.

Home Detox

You'll probably need detox with medication if you get withdrawal symptoms like shaking and sweating before your first drink of the day. This usually takes just over a week to complete.

Some people don't get these full blown withdrawals, but suffer from insomnia, anxiety & agitation when they try to stop. I can help you to succeed in stopping drinking by giving support and advice on how to manage. You might need a few days of medication from me to get you through the worst.

All detoxes come with psychological support for everybody involved and follow-up appointments.

I can usually assess and start treatment very quickly, often within days.

Counselling, Advice & Psychological Help

Not everybody with a drink problem needs a detox.

Indeed, about half of my clients don't.

I can help you by talking over how your drinking has become a problem, and explore ways that might lead you to a solution. I can guide you through what you need to do to be able to free yourself from the tyranny of alcohol abuse.

If you're the partner, friend or family of a heavy drinker or an alcoholic, and you want to know what you or they can do, don't hesitate to call me.

Or if you're feeling stuck and confused about what treatments or self-help options are open to you, I'm happy to discuss what's available. I always give direct & impartial advice. I don't try to 'sell' you my services, and if I think you'd be better off seeing someone else, I'll say so.
