Home Detox can take slightly different forms, depending on how much help and support you need, and your level of dependence on alcohol.
If you need a drink every day to stop shaking and sweating then you probably need a detox with medication to alleviate these symptoms.
Detox is a time for you to adjust psychologically as well as physically to not having alcohol. Its a time when close monitoring, encouragement and support from a sensible and experienced professional could make all the difference.
If your dependence is only mild or moderate, you may just need to make sure you have a safe place to be to manage your anxiety and sleeplessness.
If these are intolerable, I can prescribe medication for a few days to help you through this period.
If you have a history of fitting, or have other health problems like liver trouble, it may not be safe to detox you at home.
If you are prescribed medication for your detox, you'll need a reliable family member or friend around during the detox to supervise and monitor you.
The whole detox lasts between 5 and 14 days. I visit you regularly to monitor your health and to talk about what you can do to minimise any discomfort or cravings. I provide telephone support too. When I see you I'll also breathalyse you, to make sure you're not drinking.
All detoxes need planning carefully, so that you have the best chance of long-term success. Staying stopped is harder than stopping, so you'll need to think carefully about how you can live your life differently so that you don't start drinking again.
I can help you to do this, or give you an outline of what sort of things you should be considering so that you can do it yourself.
